Walkergate Hospital

Walkergate Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, once provided long-term palliative care and rehabilitation for patients with chronic conditions. The hospital had been operational for 130 years, and permanently closed in 2011. Since its closure, it became a regular victim of theft and vandalism. In 2013, all buildings on the site were demolished.

The sense of abandonment was inescapable in Walkergate Hospital. It seemed that everyone in there had just walked out one day and never returned. Patient documents, medications, medical equipment and furniture remained at the mercy of nature, and in the meantime gathering dust.
