Sarah Jane Owen
I am an architectural photographer and videographer based in Yorkshire and the North East.
After studying BA (Hons) Contemporary Photographic Practice at Northumbria University and graduating in 2015, I spent seven years working as a Professional Photographer and Videographer. A change of career has seen me become a Chartered Building Surveyor in recent years, however my personal connection to art has not dwindled.
My passion is architecture, with a focus on disused industrial buildings of the North East and Yorkshire. I have explored this topic in depth through my personal research paper, A Study of Ruins With Emphasis on Aesthetics, Temporality and their Socio-Historical Context.

My practice involves documenting the ruination of abandoned buildings, and portraying their forgotten beauty. Architecture as a subject matter provides something tangible - a distinct connection to the everyday. Through the mediums of still image and video, I take the viewer on a journey through the space.
